Na'Abba was a thoroughbred politician, legislator, says Ganduje

Former Speaker of House of Representatives, Alhaji Ghali Na'Abba: dies in Abuja Wednesday morning, after a brief illness.

Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, the Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), has described former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Ghali Na’Abba as “a thoroughbred politician and legislator who meant well for the country.

Ganduje said this while recalling the pivotal role Na’Abba who died on Wednesday played when he served as Speaker to entrench the independence of the legislative arm of the government in a condolence message signed by his press Secretary, Mr Edwin Olofu on Wednesday in Abuja.

“His rich experiences and doggedness even when faced with the risk of impeachment were contributory to whatever achievements we recorded at the National Assembly today.

“He diligently served Nigeria. His wit, intellect, diligence and warm personality were legendary.”

Ganduje prayed to Allah to grant Na’Abba Aljannat Firdaus, and his entire family members and the people of Kano State and Nigeria at large, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Na’Abba died in Abuja on Wednesday morning at the age of 65.

Born on Sept. 27, 1958 in Tudun Wada, Kano State, Na’Abba was the Speaker of the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2003.

He represented Kano Municipal Federal Constituency and won election to the National Assembly on the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) in 1999.

He became the Speaker of the House of Representatives after Alhaji Salisu Buhari was forced out of the Assembly over certificate and age issues.
