Gay Met Police officer Sagaidak accused of raping man charged

A serving Gay Metropolitan Police officer, PC Andrej Sagaidak has been suspended from duty after being charged with the rape of another man.

Sagaidak, who was working in his probation period and is attached to the local policing team in south-east London, was charged on Friday, 5 January.

The Met Police said he was charged with two counts of rape, one count of non-fatal strangulation and one count of causing actual bodily harm.

The police in a release said Sagaidak appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 6 January where he was remanded in custody to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, 2 February.

According to Detective Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawry, responsible for policing in Bexley, Greenwich and Lewisham, this is a deeply concerning allegation, saying he knew it would cause significant concern.

He said the police took immediate action when they received the report and that the officer was suspended from duty following his arrest on Thursday.

The police said an investigation was launched after they received a report that a man had been raped by another man at a residential property in Islington on Monday, 1 January.

The police added that the officer was off-duty at the time of the alleged offence, saying they would continue to provide support to the victim, as the investigation was ongoing.

The police said a mandatory referral had been made to the IOPC.
