Its popularity in the U.S. reflects years of innovation and persistence from African artists.

However, Afrobeats has established itself as a major cultural and musical force in the United States, as a central hub for the genre’s global spread. Initially gaining international traction in the late 2010s, Afrobeats has since become a staple on platforms like Spotify and YouTube. Hence, it’s celebrated as one of Africa’s most significant cultural exports, contributing to the rapid rise of global music trends.

According to Luminate Data, Afrobeats has seen a 26.2% increase in on-demand streaming, making it one of the fastest-growing genres in both the U.S. and worldwide alongside K-pop. This rise showcases Afrobeats’ ability to bridge cultures, drawing a wide, diverse audience that continues to fuel its global momentum.

Johnny Crown Omolade, born on January 21, 1997, in Brooklyn, New York, is a dynamic artist who bridges his American roots with his Nigerian heritage, creating a unique blend of his music and artistry. Osayaba Andrew Ize-Iyamu, better known by his stage name Cruel Santino, is a Nigerian alternative singer, songwriter, rapper, and director. Born on June 3, 1992, in Lagos and raised in Ikeja, he first ventured into the music scene as a rapper under the name Ozzy B in 2011. He later gained recognition with his mixtapes Diaries of a Loner (2011) and Birth of Santi (2013).

In 2016, he rebranded himself as Santi and released his first EP, Suzie’s Funeral, followed by the popular single “Gangsta Fear” which gained commercial success in Nigeria and the UK. Lojay grew up in Ikorodu and Victoria Island, Lagos, where his passion for music developed alongside his studies.
