Mr. Tunde Solomon, the operations manager of in Ibadan, BON Hotel Nest, in Bodija area of Ibadan, Oyo State has reportedly died of heart attack reportedly as a result of the panic from explosions that rocked the vicinity of the facility on Tuesday night,

The management of Bon Hotel confirmed the death of the hotel manager on their Instagram page on Friday.

According to the statement, Solomon was suspected to have died after the shock from the explosion that occurred very near the BON Hotel, his place of work.

The management of the hotel, on its Instagram page on Friday, described the late operations manager as a selfless and dedicated worker who had been using his 25 years in the industry for the growth of the organisation.

“We regret to inform you of the sudden passing of our beloved Operations Manager, Mr. Tunde Solomon.”

“Mr. Solomon suffered a heart attack on the 17th of January 2024, and it is believed that it was a consequence of the explosion that occurred on the 16th of January 2024 at Bodija.

Meanwhile, the Oyo State Government has confirmed that the number of casualties from the Ibadan explosion has risen to five after two corpses were recovered from the rumbles between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Prof. Temitope Alonge, the head of the Emergency Operations Centre for the evacuation and rescue of the explosion’s victims said the two corpses were in addition to the three recovered between Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon.

Alonge however assured that rescue operations were still on as directed by Mr Seyi Makinde, the governor of the state, to ensure that everyone was accounted for.

“The state government will continue to monitor and respond to the situation, as investigations into the cause of the explosion are ongoing,” he said.

Gov. Makinde had on Tuesday asked residents staying in any of the houses within 250 metres from the scene of the explosion to move out to accommodation provided by the government.

”This is until we check the structural integrity of the buildings,” the governor had said.

He equally warned hoodlums who may want to take advantage of the incident to carry out any form of looting to desist.

Gov. Makinde stated further that all those involved directly or indirectly in bringing the tragedy upon the state would be brought to book. Apart from the dead, the Governor also revealed that about 80 people were injured in the blast.
