Former Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, SAN, has revealed that he is still being paid N577,000 monthly pension by the Lagos State Government.
Fashola, in an interview on Arise TV, said despite the stories that he was getting billions of naira as pension from the state government, all he got monthly was N577,000.
The former Minister of Works and Housing stated: “The benefit I get is I think N577,000 monthly pension from Lagos State, that is all I get and in spite of all the stories that we got several billions, I have come out to deny that repeatedly.
“Well I don’t know how long it will last but I still get it every month. That is all I get and there is no federal benefits at all.”
Fashola also said most of the negative things spoken about Nigeria had come from Nigerians and not outsiders.
“The point I tried to address in the book is the hyperbole and perhaps the way we speak about ourselves, most of the negative things we speak about our country have come from ourselves and not outsiders, that we can look in the mirror and have a different conversation about ourselves.
“So is the the tendency I perceive to conflict government and country, which is the point I am trying to make. I think we should separate them. Governments are going to come and go, governments are going to perform and some disappoint, it is not our country that has let us down.
“We should not throw our country under the bus because I am angry with the politicians from a particular area,” he added.
