Super Eagles face Cameroon

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will play Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the round of 16 cracker at the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.

The Eagles qualified second in Group A while Cameroon came second in Group C. While Nigeria won two games and drew one in Group A, Cameroon managed to squeeze through, winning a game, drawing one and losing one.

The two countries will meet on Saturday by 9.00pm.

The last time Nigeria and Cameroon played was in June 2021 in an international friendly. The first match was won by Cameroon by a lone goal while the second match ended goalless.

The last time Cameroon and Nigeria met in a competitive match was at the quarter-final of AFCON in 2019. Nigeria won the match 3-2. The goals were scored by Odion Ighalo who hit a brace, while Alex Iwobi scored the other goal.

In 2017, Nigeria and Cameroon met at two World Cup qualifying matches. The Eagles drew 1-1 in Yaoundé and demolished Cameroon 4-0 in Nigeria.

Since 1968, Nigeria and Cameroon have met 16 times. The Eagles won seven of such meetings, while Cameroon won five. The two sides drew four times.
