The driver of a car being chased by the police in Wandsworth, London has killed a motorbike rider after a fatal collision.

The driver, who was eventually arrested, has been taken into custody following the death of the motorbike rider.

According to the police, at about 00:25hrs on Monday, 29 January, officers on patrol attempted to stop a Range Rover on the A3 close to Roehampton Lane.

The police said the vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit was authorised, adding that a short time later, the Range Rover collided with a motorbike.

“Officers immediately provided first aid to the rider. The London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service were called to the scene.

“Despite the efforts of officers and paramedics, the rider sadly died at the scene. Officers are working to establish this person’s identity,” the Met Police said in a release.

“The driver of the Range Rover has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for police, causing death by dangerous driving, theft of motor vehicle and driving under the influence of drugs,” the police said.

The police stated that the Directorate of Professional Standards had been informed and a referral had been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

“The IOPC has declared an independent investigation which the Met will fully support. Any witnesses yet to speak with police or anyone with dashcam footage is asked to contact the Met via 101, ref 110/29jan,” the police added.
