The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured that it will ensure that every vote will count in the ongoing by-election in Surulere 1 Federal Constituency of Lagos State.

INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in Lagos state, Prof. Ayobami Salami said this while commenting on the ongoing election on Saturday.

He said the commission was out to conduct one of the best elections ever.

Twelve candidates of different political parties are contesting in the election.

Salami said that INEC had done its best to prepare for the election and there was no logistics challenge in the deployment of materials and personnel.

“The process is going on smoothly; the poll opened on time and we didn’t have any logistics challenges with our officers.

“The security agencies are fully on the ground to cover all the polling booths. The report has not been negative from any side.

“We are hoping that it is going to be so throughout the process today,” the INEC boss said.

He urged political gladiators and their supporters to work in collaboration with the electoral umpire to ensure a peaceful and credible election that everyone would be proud of.

The seat became vacant due to the resignation of the former occupant, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, who after winning, was appointed by President Bola Tinubu as his Chief of Staff. (NAN)
