Re-run Election in Sokoto State

Alhaji Mode Shagari, the Special Adviser to Governor Ahmad Aliyu on Transport, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other stakeholders for the peaceful conduct of the re-run election in the state.

Shagari, who expressed his appreciation after voting at Lambara 001 polling unit on Saturday, urged parties to accept the outcome in good faith.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Court of Appeal in Abuja ordered re-run elections in the Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency, as well as the Bodinga and Tambuwal State Constituencies.

Shagari, who also said that in every election, there must be a winner, expressed satisfaction with the modalities and peaceful processes that allowed citizens to exercise their rights.

He noted that the polling unit had been canceled in the previous election due to violence.

Similarly, Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi, the state Commissioner for Higher Education, commended stakeholders for the peaceful conduct of the exercise.

He noted that some minor anomalies regarding guided voting were promptly addressed by INEC officials.

Abdullahi also noted the impressive turnout of voters and the presence of security personnel at the polling units.

Also, Malam Mu’azu Usman, the Presiding Officer of Lambara 002, said that the election began as scheduled, with machines working without issues.

He said that men and women lined up orderly in separate queues.

Observers and Polling Agents, including Malam Sani Yalguda, Alkali Baba, Bello Haruna and Sanusi Usman also commended the peaceful voting process.

NAN reports that polling remained peaceful at Dandin Mahe, Sayyinnawal, Gamgam and Kajiji polling areas.

However, unrest was recorded in Jaredi and Kambama, both in Shagari Local Government Area, leading to disruptions of voting.

NAN Correspondents reported the presence of security operatives, including the Nigerian Army and Police, patrolling the polling units and stationed at the polling centres.

In Tambuwal, Yabo and Bodinga Local Government Areas, elections concluded earlier, with sorting and collations already underway.
