IGP commends police officer who rejected N4m bribe

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has commended  a Superintendent of Police, Riwanu Kasumu  of the Lagos Police Command and his  tactical  team for rejecting N4m bribe in  a case of drug peddling and unlawful possession of ammunition.

Kasumu and his team had arrested  a suspected drug peddler,  Esther Newman Obiekezie, f, 42 years, aka Candy, of No 6, Mojirade Street, Ilogbo Lagos, on February 6.  She was said to be selling drugs called ICE. The team recovered a large quantity of the substance and some AK47 live ammunition from her.

But  in the cause of the investigation, two persons,  Akete Esther, f, 43, and Oke Okebalam, m, 49 years, of Ajangbadi Lagos,  were said to have  come to the station in Ijanikin, to solicit release of the suspect. They were said to have offered N4m  to the police so Esther could continue her illicit trade.

A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said: “The police officer who frowned at the offer seized the cash and marked it exhibit and arrested the duo for further investigation and prosecution.

“The IGP, therefore, reiterates the commitment of the Force to harnessing all available means and adopting professional anti crime strategies to tackle all forms of crimes and criminality in Nigeria”.
