South Africa beat DR Congo

The Bafana Bafana of South Africa defeated DR Congo 6-5 on penalties to win the Bronze medal at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.

The match ended goalless at the end of 90 minutes. For the first time in AFCON, there was no extra time, the match went into shootouts immediately.

South Africa’s goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams saved two kicks to give South Africa the victory.

Earlier in the 51st minute, Simon Banza received a precise pass inside the box and took a shot that flew just wide off the right post.

In the 66th minute, Silas controlled a rebound inside the box. He only had the keeper to beat, but his shot flew a whisker wide off the left post.

A rebound in the 76th minute found Chancel Mbemba in space inside the box, but his shot flew high over the bar.

In the 90th minute, DR Congo had a golden chance to score. Fiston Mayele met a cross in the box and found some space for a shot. He produced an inaccurate effort that went wide off the right post.
