Former Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola, has noted that politicians who spend more during elections in Ogun usually lose out because the residents of the state don’t vote because of the money, but with their intelligence.

Ishola made the assertions while speaking with journalists at June 12, Cultural Center Abeokuta at an event organised to mark the World Radio Day organized by Freelancer and Independent Broadcasting Association of Nigeria (Ogun state chapter)

He said money holds no sway in Ogun’s political landscape, asserting that the state’s sophistication prevents the people from succumbing to financial inducements during elections.

The former High Commissioner said history supports his claim, with the highest spenders consistently losing elections in the state.

While expressing concerns about vote buying, Ishola emphasized that with the political consciousness and enlightenment of Ogun people, there should not be any worry about monetary influences in elections conducted in the state.

He, however, urged other states to emulate Ogun in fostering a politically aware populace.
