AFCON aftermath: Super Eagles get new ranking

Following their performance in the recently concluded  African Cup of Nations, the Super Eagles of Nigeria are now ranked 28th in the world and third in Africa.

The implication of this development is that Nigeria which came second in the AFCON have moved up by 14 spots in the latest FIFA ranking table. According to the table, the Super Eagles garnered garnered 1,522 points as against the 1,474 points they got in December 2023.

The Super Eagles are still behind  Morocco placed 12th in the world and first in Africa;  and Senegal who are  17th in the world and second in Africa.

The winners of the AFCON, Cote D’Ivoire moved up ten spots to place 39th in the world.

AFCON bronze medalists,  South Africa climbed 8 spots to 58th in the world. Egypt now placed 36th; Cameroon 51st and Ghana, 67th all dropped points, no thanks to their early  AFCON 2023 exits.

The impressive  Angolan side who were ousted by Nigeria in quarter finals, moved up 24 spots to place 93rd in the world.
