Lagos Island businessman sent to prison over attempt to kill woman

Police officers at the Adeniji Adele Division, Lagos Island of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a Lagos Island businessman, Michael Cyprian Uche and charged him before a Lagos Magistrate’s court for attempting to kill a woman, Esther Ojih by strangling her neck and biting her left hand which caused her bodily harm.

Police alleged that trouble started between the duo when they engaged themselves in an altercation at their residence, located at Phase 3, Adeniji Adele Estate, Lagos Island which soon degenerated into a fight during which the defendant allegedly attempted to kill the complainant by strangling her neck and biting her left hand.

Police further alleged while the commotion was going on, neighbours sent a distress call to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO in-charge of Adeniji division who swiftly dispatched his men to the scene to arrest the combatants and restore order.

The defendant was charged before the Tinubu Magistrate Court on a two-count charge bordering on an attempt to kill and biting of the complainant.

Police prosecuting counsel, Koti Aodohemba, an Inspector of Police told the court in the charge marked TC/8/2024 that the defendant was arrested for attempting to kill the complainant.

He said the offences, the defendant committed were punishable under Sections 230 and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and Chief Magistrate A. T. Omoyele granted him N100,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

Omoyele adjourned the case till 20 February 2024 for mention and ordered that the defendant be detained at the Ikoyi Correctional Facility till he perfected the bail conditions.
