BREAKING: APC declares 'messy' Edo governorship primary inconclusive

In a move intended to clear the mess that characterized the process, the National Working Committee of All Progressives Congress, APC on Tuesday evening declared its primary for Edo governorship election conducted last Saturday inconclusive.

Three out of the 12 aspirants who contested in the primary held last Saturday have claimed victory at the end of the election.

Governor Hope Uzodinma who was appointed to lead the Primary Election Committee by the APC NWC had declared Hon. Dennis Idahosa the winner, with 40,453 votes.

However, two other aspirants – Senator Okpebholo and Honourable Sunday Dekeri also claimed they won the primary election.

While Okpebholo was returned winner by the Chief Returning Officer, Dr. Stanley Ugboaja, Dekeri was announced as the governorship candidate of APC for the Edo September 2024 governorship election by the local government returning officers led by Mr Ojo Babatunde.

It was learned that Dekeri and Okpebholo have filed petitions to the Appeal Committee and the office of the national chairman of the party affirming that they should be issued certificates of return as the candidate of APC for the election,

The Nation also report that the the National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and the National Secretary, Sen. Ajibola Basiru also briefed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the messy outcome of the primary.

However, the decision to declare the primary inconclusive was announced after at an emergency meeting of the APC NWC convened to appraise the report of the primary election submitted by Gov. Hope Uzodinma.

National Publicity Secretary of APC, Felix Morka, announced the decision to declare the primary election inconclusive at the end of the meeting which lasted over three hours to journalists.

He also said Thursday, 22 February has now being fixed for the conclusion of the gubernatorial primary.

“At its emergency meeting held today, Tuesday, February 20, 2024, to consider the report on the Edo State Governorship Primary Election, the National Working Committee (NWC) deliberated on the report and resolved that the Edo State Governorship Primary Election has not been completed, and has now fixed Thursday, February 22, 2024, for the completion of the Primary Election Process.”
