Rivers Commissioner of Police, CP Tunji Disu has summoned the Chairman of Etche local government area council of the state, Dr. Obinna Anyanwu, and and his Chief of Staff to appear before him for questioning over destruction of properties at the venue of thanksgiving ceremony organised for Fubara
The Command, in a letter dated February 20, 2024, and signed by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Okehi Police Division, Benjamin Ugwuegbulem, also directed Anyanwu to come along with his Chief of Staff, Promise Nwankwo.
Anyawu was scheduled to appear before the Police Commissioner today, but it could not be confirmed whether he honoured the invitation as at the time of writing this story.
The invitation was due to the destruction and burning of properties at the venue of a thanksgiving service organised by supporters of the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, at Afara community in Etche LGA of the State.
In a viral video sighted by our Correspondent and posted on social media platforms , Nwankwo was seen leading thugs to destroy the properties, including canopies, musical equipment, and chairs at the occasion.
Expectedly, the local government chairman will be questioned by the Commissioner of Police, through the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID).
Observers believe that the destruction may have carried out to show that Governor Fubara does have supporters and therefore not popular in Etche local government
