Night of disaster as fire destroys 50 shops in Kano

A  fire that raged in the midnight, has destroyed at least 50 shops at Yan Katako Market Rijiyar Lemu area of Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.

Goods and  other belongings worth more than  N150 million were reportedly lost in the fire.

The Chairman of the market association, Alhaji Mamuda Abdullahi,  said the fire started raging at about 1am on Monday.

He, however, commended the  Kano State Fire Service personnel for their prompt response.

But according to The PUNCH, the Public Relations Officer of the State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi,  said that about 25 shops were completely razed down while  several other shops were only partially affected.

He said: “We received distress calls around 1am and our men were able to put out the fire around 2am,” Abdullahi said.
