'How Police used hunters to rescue 40 kidnapped victims in Taraba'

The Police have explained how it used hunters to rescue 40 people kidnapped at various times from Dilla, Lanko, and Gampu communities in Yorro like local government area, and Dekko and Kotsensi communities of Monkin B ward in Zing local government area of Taraba State.

The victims were rescued from the top of Gongomaliki mountain in Yorro Local Government Area of the state.

Taraba Commissioner of Police, Mr David Iloyanomon who announced the rescue of the 40 hostages said the kidnappers had previously make the mountain impregnable for the security operatives as they usually stay on top to launch attacks against them from afar.

However, he said the police were able to overcome the challenge with the strategic use of the local hunters, who were familiar with the terrain.

“We deployed another strategy of using the local hunters and vigilantes, who dislodged them, neutralised some and rescued 40 victims, while police operatives at strategic locations arrested 10 suspects, who were fleeing the mountain,” he said.

Iloyanomon said the rescued hostages were subsequently taken to the police clinic in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, for examination and treatment after they regained freedom.

Iloyanomon who paraded the rescued victims the press briefing added that an eye of one of them was plucked out by the kidnappers, while another who had a gunshot injury was still in the hospital.

The Police Commissioner also paraded 10 suspected kidnappers who were arrested by police operatives, while allegedly fleeing from the mountain.

He added that the Taraba Command would enhance the collaboration with Local hunters and vigilantes to guarantee safety of residents
