Lagos car dealer arraigned for allegedly duping widow of N26m

The police at the Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos of the Nigeria Police have arrested a car dealer and the director of Bajomo Investment Limited, Mr. Oyeniyi Abolaji Muideen, 47, and charged him before a Lagos Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obtaining the sum of N26,000,000 from a widow, Mrs. Hauwa Sunkanmi Bamigboye under false pretence.

Police alleged that the defendant allegedly collected the money from the complainant with the pretext of supplying her with cars, but that the defendant failed to supply the cars and instead he converted the money to his use.

The defendant, a resident of El-Shadai Close, Off Itoga Road, Badagry, Lagos was charged before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court sitting at the Ebute-Metta Magistrate’s Court, Lagos on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretence and stealing.

Police prosecuting counsel, ASP Ibrahim Haruna told the court that the defendant committed the offence in May 2022 at Badagry, Lagos.

Haruna informed the court that the defendant tricked the complainant and collected the sum of N26m from her with the pretext of supplying her four cars namely a Toyota Sienna 2007 model, Mazda 323 protage, Toyota Camry mutshe and Ford bus but that the defendant failed to supply the cars to the complainant, and instead converted the money to his use.

He said the offences, the defendant committed were punishable under Section 314 (1) (a) (b) and 287 (a) (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and Magistrate, Mrs. Davies granted him N1m bail with two sureties in like sum.

Davies adjourned the case till 21 March 2024 for trial.
