Edo Labour Party bigwig decamps to PDP, drums support for Ighodalo

This is not a good time for the Labour Party and its candidate in Edo governorship election, Mr. Olumide Akpata, as a frontline member of the party in Edo Central, Mr. Patsbolo Okpebholo,  has decamped to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.

popular grassroots mobilizer whom LP had banked upon to help it make meaningful impact in central senatorial district of the state, has now declared support for the PDP’s candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo.

Okpebholo explained that his support for Dr. Ighodalo followed his recent resignation from the Labour Party.

He said that he quit LP over alleged sellout by the leadership of the party at both national and state levels during the just concluded primary election of the party which saw the emergence of the former NBA President as its flag bearer in the 21 September election.

He particularly frowned at  what he saw the flagrant mortgage of the governorship ambition of Esan people to the highest bidder, a move he condemned as lacking dignity and focus.

Okpebholo who spoke in a telephone interview with journalists, maintained that he was moving his teeming supporters and followers across the five local government areas that make up the senatorial district to the PDP to support Dr Ighodalo’s candidature.

He said: “As it stands, only the PDP has shown genuine commitment to ensure Esan people have a shot at the seat of power in the state.

“And I am going to be pulling out my resources and political structure within the five local government areas in Edo Central to work for the PDP and ensure Asue Ighodalo wins the coming gubernatorial election.”
