Fubara approves recruitment of 500 workers, mass promotion in health sector

Rivers governor, Siminalayi Fubara has approved immediate employment of 500 staff into the state health sector. The 500 new staff when employed will be shared between the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) and the Rivers State Health Management Board (RSHMB).

Three weeks were given as the timeline to complete the process and ensure that those engaged commenced work.

Also, approved is the commencement of the process of promotion of all staff of the RSHMB and RSUTH, which should be concluded within March 2024.

Governor Fubara gave the approval during an interactive meeting he had with the newly appointed members of the Rivers State Hospitals Management Board on Monday.

At the end of the meeting, the Chairman of the Board, Prof. Daprim Samuel Ogaji and the Chief Medical Director, RSHMB, Dr. Bright Ogbondah thanked the governor for the approval.

It would be recalled that one of teething problems the immediate past administration of Nyesom had with labour unions was its refusal to promote civil servants for eight years.

Others also include; controversy surrounding the implementation of minimum wage, failure to carry out employment into the Civil Service, non-promotion of civil servants and failure to pay arrears of pensions and gratuities to civil servants.

At the twilight of his tenure as Governor, Wike said his administration did not fulfill pay the arrears of fulfill the obligations to the civil servants because he did not want the ” troublesome” leadership of Itubo to earn the credit for fighting for the welfare of civil servants.
