Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command on Tuesday morning engaged terrorists in a massive gun battle at Nnobi, Idemili South Local Government Area.

The police were joined in the battle against the insurgents by local vigilante men.

The insurgents were reportedly operating with a Toyota Highlander when the gun battle ensued.

It was learnt that one of the terrorists was arrested with gunshot, while four AK-47 rifles and 219 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered.

Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement confirmed the shootout.

According to him, “In the early hours of today, Tuesday 12th March 2024, Police at Nnobi, Idemili South LGA, Anambra State, while on patrol with Vigilante men in Awka Etiti engaged insurgents operating with a Toyota Highlander in a shootout.

“One of the insurgents was arrested with gunshot. Four AK-47 Rifles and 219 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered.”
