Ighodalo expresses shock over kidnap of Edo PDP chair

Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 21 September governorship election in Edo, Dr Asue Ighodalo, has expressed shock over the kidnap of the state chairman of the party, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi.

Aziegbemi was kidnapped at about 11 pm on Friday, just few meters to his GRA residence in Benin City, the Edo state capital, as related by his driver.

Reacting to the incident, Ighodalo in a three-paragraph statement he personally signed, condemn what he described as dastardly act.

According to him, “The news of the kidnapping of the Edo State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, on Friday night, was extremely shocking and distressing.

“I strongly condemn this dastardly act, and my heart goes out to the Aziegbemi family at this very trying time. I join the family in offering fervent prayers for his safe return.

“I also urge the security agencies to continue to spare no effort in investigating the matter and working assiduously for our dear party chairman’s safe release.”

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Funsho Adegboye, has ordered the tactical team of the command to conduct a rescue party in collaboration with the Vigilantes group and the Hunters to rescue Aziegbemi unhurt.

A statement by the Command’s spokesman, SP Chidi Nwabuzor added that CP Adeboye solicites for the cooperation of the law-abiding citizens of the State and urged them to give information to the Police may that lead to the arrest of the perpetrators and the rescue of the victim unhurt.
