Peter Navarro, a White House advisor under former U.S. President Donald Trump who was found guilty of defying a congressional subpoena from the House Jan. 6 committee reported to a federal prison on Tuesday to begin serving a four-month sentence.

Navarro attempted to delay the sentence pending an appeal, although an appeals court blocked his efforts earlier this month.

He was instructed to report to Federal Correctional Institution Miami on or before 2:00 p.m. EDT (18:00 GMT) on March 19.

“Every person who has taken me on this road to that prison is a friggin’ Democrat and a Trump hater,” Navarro said during remarks outside the prison on Tuesday.

Navarro has previously said that he had an honest belief that Trump invoked executive privilege, which he contends justified his decision not to comply with the congressional subpoena.

Navarro has made history as the first former White House official to be imprisoned for a contempt of Congress conviction. (Sputnik/NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
