Controversial American hip-hop artiste Kanye West has said contrary to assumptions that his family has a black heritage, they are of Indian origin.

The ‘Ye’ crooner disclosed this in a viral video trending on X platform.

West said, “And by the way, we are not black. How about that? We are not black, n*gga! We are Indian.”

His revelation has left many of his fans confused while some opined that he might be right.

This is coming days after the rapper claimed that he created “every style of music” that has been dominant in pop culture in the past two decades.

He insinuated that he created trap, drill, contemporary R&B, and basement.

Kanye Omari West was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 8, 1977. His father, Ray, was a photojournalist for the Atlanta Journal newspaper and was also politically active in the Black Panthers; he later became a Christian counselor.

West’s mother, Donda, was a teacher who became a professor of English at Chicago State University, and eventually, her son’s manager before she died at the age of 58 from heart disease after cosmetic surgery in 2007. Her passing would profoundly affect West musically as well as personally.

West initially made his mark on the music industry as a producer for leading artists. He showcased his own abilities as a rapper with his 2004 debut, College Dropout, and cemented his place atop the hip hop world via such chart-topping albums as Late Registration (2005), My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010), Yeezus (2013) and Ye (2018).

The winner of nearly two dozen Grammy Awards, West is also known for his awards-show theatrics, forays into fashion and marriage to Kim Kardashian.

Kanye West recently announced that Nigeria will be featuring in his upcoming tour which will start in Toronto, Canada on June 22, 2024, and continue across the US until August, when it will move to Mexico.

He will then tour Spain, Egypt, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates before touching down in Kenya and Nigeria in December.

Moving from Africa, Kanye will move to Australia in January 2025, and then conclude the tour in Japan in February.
