A Dangote mixer truck has crushed a woman to death in Abule Egba area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria after the driver lost control due to brake failure.

The truck, with registration number KANO MDB 531 XA, was said to have ramped on the woman inward Mobil Filling Station besides Jubilee Bridge opposite Zenith Bank on Monday.

The Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq in a statement said the body of the woman was evacuated from underneath the Dangote truck by officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

He said the driver of the truck was immediately handed over to policemen from Oko-Oba Police Station.

According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the mixer truck while on a high speed lost control as a result of a brake failure and that while trying to swerved into a drainage channel crushed an innocent woman to death.

He said while the truck driver was immediately apprehended by LASTMA officials, policemen from Oko-Oba Police Station provided security backup while the rescue operations lasted.

Adebayo stated that a LASTMA official Abdul Salam Nurudeen who led the recovery operations confirmed that his team were supported by other road sympathizers to removed the trapped body.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, however warned truck owners/drivers to always ensure their trucks were properly checked, including the braking system before embarking on any journey within or outside Lagos.
