The Oredo Local Government Council of Edo State has elevated its service delivery with the commencement of online processing of all activities on its Oredo Online Services Platform.

The platform which will be formally launched on Tuesday, has undergone a 90-day test run.

Speaking at the pre-launch press briefing, the Chairman of the Local Government Council, Dr Tom Obaseki, said the Platform is expected to ease all administrative activities in the Council and so transform the way local government administration engages with citizens.

He said indigenes and residents of the local government area can access the platform from the comfort of their homes anywhere in the world.

According to him, services like certificates of local government of origin, burial permits, marriage registration, amongst others, could be accessed without physically visiting the secretariat.

He said: “We have actually been testing this, we have run it internally and we found it very effective and totally ready to be deployed. We have done that for about 90 days and Oredo will be the first to do such in Nigeria.

“Oredo Local Government Area is a melting pot of diverse ethnic groups with a population of approximately 536,827 according to the 2006 census.

“It is the most urbanized Local Government Area in Edo State. It does not only serves as the state capital, but also the seat of the state government as well as the palace of the Oba of Benin.”

Obaseki added: “Oredo Online Services Platform promotes transparency in governance and residents-friendly experience.

“It is accessible 24/7 and offers a platform for citizens to access multiple services remotely and from the comfort of their homes, while eliminating indiscriminate, selective and excessive billing.

“The automated and innovative service delivery platform initiated and executed by our administration that will render various services to Oredo residents in a timely, seamless, and more efficient manner.

The digital platform has also been designed to automate access to services in a way that anywhere in the world, citizens of Oredo can have access to services such as local government origin/identification certificate, marriage registration, burial permit, and other services without being physically present.

“Our aim is to take the lead in digitizing the process of rendering services to residents at local government level making it more efficient and seamless.”
