American singer and rapper, Melissa Viviane Jefferson, popularly known as Lizzo has announced her retirement from music.

The plus-size singer said she was tired of “being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look.”

In a lengthy Instagram post, the four-time Grammy winner explained that she is constantly being bullied for clout.

She wrote, “I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet. All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it.

But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it. I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout & views… being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look… my character being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name,” she continued.

“I didn’t sign up for this shit,” she wrote, adding in all capital letters: “I QUIT.”

This is coming a day after Lizzo appeared at a Democratic campaign event for President Joe Biden.

In August, Lizzo was sued for allegedly pressuring and weight shaming her former dancers. Plaintiffs Crystal Williams, Arianna Davis and Noelle Rodriguez claimed in the lawsuit that they were victims of sexual, racial and religious harassment, assault, false imprisonment and disability discrimination, in addition to other allegations.

Later that week, Lizzo took to Instagram to share a statement in which she denied the allegations. The singer wrote that she typically doesn’t address “false allegations,” but said “these are as unbelievable as they sound and too outrageous not to be addressed.”

The 35-year-old rapper and singer has also won a Billboard Music Award, a BET Award, and two Soul Train Music Awards, in addition to four Grammys.
