'How Police rescued 28 girls abducted in Katsina same day'

Twenty eight girls abducted while searching for firewood at the outskirt of Kasai village in the Batsari Local Government area of Katsina state were rescued the same day.

Katsina Police Command in a statement by its spokesperson Abubakar Aliyu said the 28 girls were abducted on April 1, 2024, at about 10:30 a.m., when they went to the outskirts of Kasai village to fetch firewood.

He however said upon receipt of the report, Katsina Commissioner of Police, Mr Aliyu Abubakar Musa, swiftly deployed operatives to the scene to rescue the girls unhurt.

According to the statement, the 28 girls were rescued as a result of the efforts of the dedicated rescue team of the Police Command deployed by the Commissioner.

“Thanks to the unwavering efforts and increased pressure exerted by the command, the victims have regained freedom and are safe and sound,” he said.

“Following the escalation of the pressure and the concerted actions of the command, the abductors eventually released all the victims on the same day.

“This success attests to the perseverance and commitment of the command. We equally thank everyone involved in the operation.

“Efforts to ensure the safety and security of the community and the state will continue unabated.

“Further developments will be communicated to members of the public,” he said.
