Family announces burial programme for late Jimi Solanke

The family of veteran Nigerian actor, playwright, folk singer, songwriter, Jimi Solanke will be buried on Friday, April 5, at a private cemetery.

The arrangement for his interment was confirmed by his family on Tuesday.

The funeral service will take place at the Methodist Church Nigeria in Ipara-Remo, Ogun State.

Solanke died on Monday, February 5, 2024, at the age of 81.

The week-long activities will commence with a choral concert at Ibudo Asa, Ipara Remo, on Monday, April 1, 2024, alongside events like a night of tribute at Freedom Park, Lagos, candlelight processions at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, and Ipara-Remo, Ogun State.

On Saturday, April 6, there will be cultural and masquerade displays, among other programmes.

The burial events will end on April 7, 2024, with a thanksgiving service.

Late Chief Jimi Solanke who was indigenous to Ogun State, was born on July 4, 1942, in Ipara Remo. He was a pioneer member of the Orisun Theatre Group, founded by the renowned Wole Soyinka, in 1961.

He was involved in epic plays such as “Death and the King’s Horseman,” “Kurunmi,” “Kongi’s Harvest,” “The Divorce,” and “Ovaramwen Nogbaisi.”

Solanke was active in the entertainment and arts industry for seven decades. He was a popular television face in the 80s.
