Sultan declares Wednesday Eid-el-Fitr, says fasting continues Tuesday

The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar has declared Wednesday for Eid-el-Fitr celebration as no moon was sighted, saying fasting continues on Tuesday.

According to the Sultan, the decision was a taken after the report of National Moon Sighting Committees across the country confirmed there was no new moon seen.

The statement was signed by the Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs to the Sultanate Council, Prof Sambo Junaidu.

The statement said the council accepted the report and accordingly declared Wednesday, April 10, 2024, as the first day of Shawwal 1445AH.

It added that the Sultan felicitated with the Nigerian Muslim Ummah and wished them Allah’s guidance and blessings.

The statement further said the Sultan urged the Muslim Ummah to continue to pray for peace, progress, and development of the country and wished all Muslims a happy Eid-El-Fitri.

Earlier, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had declared Wednesday Eid-el-Fitr celebration as the moon was not sighted in the kingdom on Monday.

The disclosure was made on the official Facebook page of Haramain, official platform for the Muslim community across the world.

The statement said since the moon was not sighted in Saudi Arabia on Monday, the Eid-el-Fitr celebration would now be Wednesday.

It said the Ramadan fast would continue on Tuesday, urging Muslims worldwide to use this period to please God.

“The crescent moon was NOT sighted in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, Eid Al Fitr will be celebrated on Wednesday, 10th April 2024.

“May Allāh ﷻ allow us to utilise the remaining moments of this blessed month to engage in that which pleases Him, may He accept our siyām, qiyām & a’māl & may He allow us to witness many more Ramadāns in good health. Āmīn,” the statement said.
