Viral video: Policeman to undergo mental health test, orderly room trial in Edo

The Edo Police Command has identified a young man in mufti who was seen threatening some people with an AK-47 rifle in a recent viral vieo as Prince Chima, a police constable attached to the National Deputy Chairman, South-South of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dan Orbih.

The Police Constable was seen in the viral video posted by an X user dressed in blue T-shirt, black joggers trousers, and blue palm slippers threatening some people with violence in their residence while armed with an AK-47 rifle

Chidi Nwabuzor, the spokesperson for the Edo Police Command said investigation led to the identification of the young man as a police constable the and his current department.

According to him, the police constable was consequently arrested and interrogated on the order of the state commissioner of police, Funso Adegboye.

“Consequently, during interrogation, he affirmatively stated as follows that he is Force Number 534023 PC Prince Chima, enlisted on 10th January 2020, trained at the Police Training School Ogida, Benin City.

He started his policing career in Edo State Police Command and attached to the National Deputy Chairman South-South of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Dan Orbih, via the Department of Operations.

“PC Prince Chima said that on the 7th of April 2024, he was on duty at the NIPCO Petrol Station along Siluko Road, Benin City, when a certain young man who came to charge his phone had altercation with him and the man called him a smelling Policeman, calling him all sorts of names.

“He said that when the man left the petrol station for;his residence, after the interventions of the manager of the petrol station, he followed him home, where what was seen in the video on the Internet happened,” Police said Chima claimed as reason for his action.

Nwabuzor added that the State Police Commissioner has directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the X-Squad section to investigate Chima, ascertain his mental health status through the Commands’ Medical Officer and commit him to a disciplinary process known as Orderly Room Trial.

The Police Commissioner also commended the people PC Prince Chima took fight to their house for their patience and tactfulness in handling the situation and vows that the erring officer will face the consequences of his actions.
