Nollywood actor Denola Grey has reacted to the controversial crossdresser Bobrisky’s recent jail sentence, saying it has nothing to do with the naira abuse he was convicted for.

Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in jail with no option of a fine, by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday 12th of April, 2024.

The judge brought down the hammer after Bobrisky had pleaded guilty to a four-count charge of Naira abuse brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Reacting, Grey said there is more to the sentence than meets the eye, adding that Bobrisky was being used as a “scapegoat.”

On his X handle, he wrote: “We all know this isn’t about spraying [Naira]. They are scapegoating her and using this BS as a reason.

Trouble started for Bobrisky after he sprayed money at the premiere of Ajakaju, a keenly awaited film by actress and producer Eniola Ajao, at Film One Circle Mall, in the upmarket Lagos district of Lekki last month.

Videos of the event were widely shared on social media and this may have put pressure on the authorities to take action.

However, this is not the first time a Nigerian celebrity will be jailed for Naira abuse.

In February, actress Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin was also sentenced to six months in prison for spraying and stepping on new naira notes.
