Ahead of the National Executive Council, NEC, meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP holding today, Thursday, a group North Central Vanguard has thrown its weight behind the candidacy of Dr. Philips Salawu as the new National Chairman of the party.

The group in a press statement made available to newsmen said it has taken time to look at the issues at stake in the PDP and looked at the antecedents of Salawu, a former Kogi State Deputy Governor and decided that he is the best man for the job.

“Dr. Philips Salawu’s antecedents are above board. They are without fault or blemish. He is exactly the type of leader the PDP will need at a time like this.

“Dr. Philips Salawu is from Kogi State, North Central Nigeria. The seat of the PDP national chairman needs to be currently occupied by someone from North Central until the next national convention of the party. It is a constitutional matter, in fact.

“We have looked thoroughly into the history of the various leaders we have in North Central PDP, and we have decided to endorse nobody else but a former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Dr Philips Salawu, to take over the seat of the PDP national chairman with immediate effect as we expect the NEC of our great party to do consider that the seat of PDP national chairman rightly belongs to no other zone but North Central, at the moment,” the group said.
