Nigeria's AG hails Onakoya for setting new Guinness Chess Record

Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi has hailed the feat of Tunde Onakoya, Nigerian chess master, in setting a new Guinness World Record for the longest marathon chess.

Onakoya achieved the feat on Saturday. He clocked a time of 58 hours of continuously playing chess. He has also now reached 60 hours.

The previous record was set by Norwegian players Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad, who played for 56-hour, 9-minute in 2018 and aimed at reaching 58 hours target.

However, Fagbemi, who just joined X on Friday, tweeted his congratulatory message to Onakoya on Saturday.

He said “Congratulations to @Tunde_OD @chessinslums  and indeed all the Nigerians who have been cheering him on from the get go.

“This is an extraordinary feat and it is a reflection of the tenacity, ability and visionary commitment of the Nigerian. We are proud of Tunde and his team.”
