Ogun: Electricity poles, vehicles, others destroyed in Sango Ota downpour

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), said it has deployed personnel to assess the damages caused by heavy rain to its facilities in Sango-Ota under the bridge and Oju-Ore area of Ogun State on Sunday.

Reports and videos circulating online indicated that many electric poles fell during the downpour that lasted for over one hour, 20 minutes.

Many vehicles were also destroyed with the poles and wires falling on the vehicles.

Lead Media Relation, IBEDC, Mrs Busolami Tunwase, confirmed that the company was aware of the havoc caused by the rain that started around 11.30 a.m. and the destruction of many poles and wires around Sango-Ota to Oju-Ore area and its environs.

But according to the IBEDC spokesperson, while no life was lost in the incident, properties, estimated at over N100 million, especially vehicles, were destroyed by the heavy rain.

She urged members of the public to stay away from the electric poles.

Tunwase said that IBEDC was aware of the development and had deployed its technical team to the area.

“We are appealing to the public to stay clear of every electrical poles, wires and other electrical installations until we are able to clear everything off the road,” Tunwase said.
