Delta: Police smash notorious gang of thieves, recover 12 stolen vehicles

Operatives of Delta Police Command have recovered a total of twelve (12) suspected stolen vehicles from a three-man gang of notorious car thieves led by 47-year-old Dickson Omogie in Warri town of the state.

The busting of the gang of car thieves followed a report of theft of a Toyota Corolla car which was stolen where it was parked but was later seen along Eku/Warri road by Oha Junction in Okpe LGA of Delta State.

“Sequel to the tip-off, DPO Orerokpe CSP Paul Oboware swiftly mobilized patrol teams alongside members of Oha community vigilantes and gave the suspects a hot chase to the Army checkpoint at Orerokpe Junction and double-crossed the vehicle.

“Consequently, one Dickson Omage “m” age 47yrs of Post Office Road Effurun Warri was arrested, the vehicle was recovered, and a master key which the suspects used to carry out his nefarious activities was also recovered.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect and his gang are notorious for stealing cars from where parked both in the daytime and at night,” the Delta Police Command said in a statement.

The Police added that further investigation and interrogation of Omage led to the arrest of one Ekwunwa and Kanebi Michael who are his accomplices in Benin City on 19, April, 2024.

The two suspects, according to the police statement specializes in demobilizing trackers from vehicles as well as removing old chassis numbers and engine numbers and replacing them with new ones before putting the vehicles.

Police said 12 suspected stolen vehicles were recovered from Benin City and Warri respectively with registration and chasis numbers as follows from the three suspects.
