The Nigerian movie industry popularly called Nollywood has again been thrown into mourning with the death of yet another of its notable players, Zulu Adigwe.
Adigwe, a veteran actor of many decades was announced dead on social media on Tuesday by Movie Producer Stanley Nwoko.
Nwoko wrote on his Instagram page: “I regret to announce the passing of a veteran actor, late Mr Zulu Adigwe.
“What caused his death is yet to be reviewed. Rest in peace good actor,”.
Adigwe’s death is coming barely two weeks after Junior Pope and three other Nollywood actors died in a boat accident in Anam River.
The actors were said to be on their way to a location when the incident occurred.
Adigwe gained recognition primarily for portraying fatherly characters in Nollywood films.
His breakthrough role came as Mr. B in Ken Saro-Wiwa’s soap opera, Basi and Company (1987).
He also appeared in the highly successful 2019 movie “Living in Bondage: Breaking Free.”
According to his biography published by TRILLNG, Zulu Adigwe was born and raised in Enugu in the southeastern part of Nigeria. Most of his childhood was in Enugu but he had his basic education in Austria where he completed primary, secondary, and tertiary education.
He started acting in Europe in 1970 when he got into university, but in 1999, he returned to Nigeria and joined Nollywood.
Zulu Adigwe, also known as Mazi Udemba, graduated from a university in Austria where he read medicine and switched to the University of Ibadan and graduated with a degree in Theatre Arts.
