A retired Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr Paul Ayeni, has described the call for the merger of Corps with other security agencies as unwarranted.

Ayeni told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abeokuta on Saturday while reacting to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s advice for a merger of the NSCDC with another security agency.

“The role of the corps in safeguarding the federal and states assets distinguished the corps, thereby making the proposed merger with other security agencies unwarranted,” he said.

Ayeni, also a security expert and the Chairman of EcoSafe Guards Ltd, urged the government to shun such merger.

He emphasised that the merger would worsen the security situation in the country.

The ex- NSCDC commandant explained that the service provided by the corps was specialised and could not be made by any other security agency.

” Who knows the terror these group planned to unleash on the community if they were not busted.

“The corps has been very effective in handling civil unrest , monitoring of federal and state government facilities, especially oil pipelines and public places to mention but few,” he said.
