The United States has in separate statements, congratulated two African countries, Sierra Leone and South Africa on their national celebrations.
The US Secretary of State who over Antony J. Blinken, who delivered the messages, congratulated the West African country on its 63rd independence anniversary, and the southern African country on the 30th anniversary of its first democratic election.
In the statement for Sierra Leone, Blinken said, “On behalf of the United States of America, I offer congratulations to the people of Sierra Leone as you celebrate 63 years of independence.
“We value Sierra Leone’s commitment to upholding and implementing the Agreement for National Unity to ensure long-term peace and stability and to strengthen the nation’s democratic institutions. As partners and friends, including on the UN Security Council, our shared vision for a bright future for all Sierra Leoneans drives our desire to empower all those working to create a more equitable, peaceful, and inclusive society.
“I send my best wishes to the people of Sierra Leone. I look forward to deepening our close partnership and advancing our shared goals in the year to come”.
For south Africa, the US Secretary of State, said, “On behalf of the people of the United States, congratulations to all South Africans on the historic 30th anniversary of their country’s first democratic elections.
“Freedom Day provides us with an opportunity to underscore the strong U.S.-South Africa relationship built upon our two countries’ mutual commitment to democracy and human rights.
“The United States reaffirms its dedication to collaborate with South Africa to improve the health of our peoples, foster deeper economic and commercial relations, and strengthen cooperation to ensure the safety and security of our citizens and people everywhere. I am hopeful that we may also expand our collaboration to confront the threat and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
“I offer my best wishes on this historic 30th anniversary and a year of prosperity ahead”.
