Convener #RevolutionNow, Omoyele Sowore, civil society organisations and some journalists have stormed the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Abuja, to protest the continued detention of Daniel Ojukwu, a journalist with the Foundation for Investigative Journalism.
Ojukwu who was abducted by the police in Lagos on May 1 and later transferred to Abuja, has been in detention for almost 10 days.
Ojukwu has not been charged to court although it is believed he was picked up by the police over an alleged violation of the Cyber-Crime Act of 2015.
Also, the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said that Ojukwu was being detained because there was a petition written against him.
Although, it has not been officially confirmed, FIJ management says it believes Ojukwu’s ordeal was caused by a report he did in October 2023, which claimed former Senior Special Assistant on Sustainable Development Goals to the President, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire paid N147.1 million to an account traced to Enseno Global Ventures, an Abuja-based restaurant, for the construction of classrooms.
