Reactions have continued to trail the 10th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, AMVCA, which was held at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, on Saturday.
Funke Akindele’s record-breaking film, ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ snub has emerged as the biggest talking point from the event.
‘Breath Of Life’ was the biggest winner of the night, snagging six awards, including Best Movie, Best Sound Design, Best Director (BB Sasore), Best Lead Actor (Wale Ojo), Best Supporting Actor (Ademola Adedoyin), Best Supporting Actress (Genoveva Umeh), and Trailblazer (Chimezie Imo).
‘A Tribe Called Judah’ on the other hand, lost all five nominations despite becoming the first Nigerian movie to gross over N1 billion in cinema last December.
The billion-naira record, previously held by Hollywood’s “Black Panther 2” at N1.04 billion, marks a significant milestone for the Nigerian film industry.
A Tribe Called Judah follows five brothers: Jide Kene Achufusi as Emeka Judah, Timini Egbuson as Pere Judah, Uzee Usman as Adamu Judah, Tobi Makinde as Shina Judah, and Olumide Oworu as Ejiro Judah, who must come together to rob a company to save their mother, played by Akindele as Jedidah Judah.
As expected, the snub of Nigeria’s highest-grossing film has sparked a social media firestorm.

I have seen these two movies.
Even though A tribe called Judah received lots of accolades and gathered over N1billion, Breath of Life is a better movie and deserves the award.

I told my wife early this year that Funke Akindele's "A Tribe of Judah" may have grossed the highest earnings of a movie in Nigeria, "Breath of Life" was a better movie by a mile.
Breath of life was shoulders ahead of any movie in Nigeria in 2023.
