NELFUND announces date for opening of portal for student loan applications

Students across the country will be able to apply for loans to advance their educational pursuits from 24 May when the portal for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND would open.

Akintunde Sawyer, Managing Director, NELFUND announced this on Thursday in a statement.

According to the statement, 1.2m students will be able to access loans from the portal when it kicks off.

While the funds would be paid directly to the tertiary institutions of the applicants, the students would also be entitled to stipends which would be paid directly to them.

The statement by the NELFUN managing director signed by the Media and Public Relations Lead of the Fund, Nasir Ayitogo said: “The management of Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) led by its Managing Director, Mr Akintunde Sawyerr are thrilled to announce 24th of May, 2024 as the official date for the opening of a portal for student loan applications.

“This marks a significant milestone in the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) to fostering accessible and inclusive education for all Nigerian students.

“Through the portal, students can now access loans to pursue their academic aspirations without financial constraints.

“The portal provides a user-friendly interface for students to submit their loan applications conveniently.

“We encourage all eligible students to take advantage of this opportunity to invest in their future and contribute to the growth and development of our nation.

“Students can access the portal on www.nelf.gov.ng to begin application.”

NELFUND had earlier indicated that to be able to access the loan, the students have to make an application using JAMB number, dates of birth, national Identification Number (NIN), their Bank Verification Number, confirmed admission to a specific institution for a specific course, on a specific starting date.

While new students will need their admission confirmation letters, those who are already students would need their matriculation details.
