Spanish football club, Barcelona have announced that Xavi Hernández will not continue as manager of the first team in the 2024-25 season.

The club president Joan Laporta made this announcement on Friday, just three weeks after he was reassured of his position, despite having a contract that runs until June 2025.

“FC Barcelona would like to thank Xavi for his work as a coach, which adds to an unparalleled career as a player and captain of the team, and wishes him all the luck in the world,” said the club in its official statement.

The meeting took place at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper and the sports vice-president, Rafa Yuste, and the sports director, Anderson Luís de Souza, Deco, as well as Xavi’s assistants, Òscar Hernández and Sergio Alegre, were present.

The Spaniard will, however, be in charge of Barcelona’s last game of the season against Sevilla on Sunday.

In recent weeks, reports have surfaced about Xavi’s shaky standing within the team. It appears that his influence in the locker room is fading.

Several senior players seem to be losing faith in his leadership, expressing doubts about the team’s tactics and feeling frustrated with Xavi’s criticism regarding their inability to adapt to Barcelona’s style of play.
