Imo election: Tribunal affirms Uzodimma’s victory, dismisses LP's petition

Hope Uzodimma leading in Imo

It will certainly be a weekend of celebration, especially for supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC as Imo Governorship affirmed the victory of Governor Hope Uzodimma in the November 2023 governorship election.

The Tribunal which sat in Abuja dismissed the petition of petition of the Labour Party (LP) and its governorship candidate in the election, Athan Achonu in its unanimous judgment delivered by Justice Oluyemi Akintan-Osadebay.

The three-man panel of the tribunal also declared that Uzodimma’s election as Imo State governor complied substantially with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

In addition, the tribunal held that the Labour Party in its petition failed to prove the allegation of overvoting and non-compliance to the Electoral Act.

Uzoodimma, cleared all the 27 local government areas in the state trouncing PDP’s Samuel Anyanwu, Labour Party (LP)’s Nneji Achonu, Jack Ogunewe of the Action Alliance (AA), 14 other opponents to be reelected governor.

He 540, 308 votes to defeat his closest rivals, PDP’s Anyanwu, who scored 71,503 votes and LP’s Achonu who got 64,081.
