Newspaper confirms release of Editor abducted by police

Veteran journalist and publisher of Globalupfront Newspapers, Mr Madu Onuorah who was abducted from his residence in Abuja last Wednesday’s evening by a detachment of Nigerian Police Force from Ebonyi State has been released.

The management or Globalupfront newspapers confirmed the release of the veteran journalist in a statement on Friday.

According to the statment, Onuorah was released late Thursday night by Enugu State Police Command who requested the Ebonyi Police to abduct him for them.

“We are awaiting a full briefing by Mr Onuorah and our lawyers before issuing a full statement on this matter and the next line of action.

“We solidly stand by our Editor-in-Chief and the harmless story we published.

“We insist the police station is not a court of law where alleged defamation cases are tried.

“We want to thank the Journalism and Media family, friends and well-wishers, and all defenders of freedom of expression who rose against a budding tyranny,” the management of Globalupfront said in the statement.

Recall that the Enugu Police Command had indicated that in a statement that Onuorah was arrested based on a petition by a U.S. based Reverend Sister

following the outrage that followed the abduction of the top journalist.

However, the Command failed to reveal details of the petition.
