The President of the Republic of Senegal, Bassirou Doamaye Faye, will alongside other notable recipients be honoured as a distinguished African political personality of the Year at the upcoming Africa Illustrious Award (AIA) holding on 21 June at the Oriental Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos.

President Faye who was elected on the back of popular demand for social change in his country has now become a symbol of social change across Africa, especially among African youths.

The Africa Illustrious Award, a biannual event happening in June and December of every year, is done strictly on MERIT and is an opportunity where African impactful leaders in various works of life are honored and celebrated, as part of a deliberate effort in telling the African story of resilience and progress, thus projecting the bright side of the continent to the globe.

Prof. Nnennaya Oti, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), will also be honoured with the prestigious Africa Illustrious Award.

It will be recalled that Prof. Oti refused overtures to be used as a willing tool in thwarting the expressed will of the people of Abia State in the 2023 Governorship Election in Abia.

On the list of nominees for the various categories of the Africa Illustrious Award, is also the publisher of the esteemed Ovation Magazine, Mr. Dele Momodu.
By every strand of imagination, Mr. Momodu is a man who has carved his own space in the media world through hardwork. He has continued to serve his community with everything within his reach.

Similarly, a prominent community and political leader in Anambra State, Mr. Paul Chukwuma as well as Majority Leader and Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Investment, Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon. Ikoro Kingsley Ogbonna have also been nominated for awards.

The Africa Illustrious Award in the previous years honoured Former President of Nigeria, Dr.Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. A.T. Dlamini, former Prime Minister of Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), Dr Alfred Mutua, the former Governor of the Machakos County in Kenya, who is now Kenya’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pan Africanist, Prof P.L.O Lumumba, former Nigerian Ambassador to Angola, Prof. Monique Ekpong, Vice-chancellor of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Charles Esimone who became a professor in his thirties and Tunde Onakoya the current holder of the Guinness world record for longest chess marathon, all got different prestigious awards.

Special guests making their appearances at the awards include Nollywood legends, Chinedu ‘Aki’ Ikedieze, Osita ‘Pawpaw’ Iheme, football legends Mutiu ‘Headmaster’ Adepoju and immediate past Golden Eaglets Head Coach Nduka Ugbade.

This Award promises to showcase the best of Africa, while celebrating African excellence in all human endeavours.
