Nigerian singer Yemi Alade has revealed why she named her upcoming album ‘Rebel Queen’.

At a press briefing in Lagos, Alade explained that the album is a mix of her thoughts, melodies, and a lot of nostalgia, Tori News reports.

Alade said she created the album because she was bored with the repetitive genres and styles in Afrobeats music.

“I am a true rebel in words and actions. Many albums suffer from monotony in genre and style, which I find boring. This album is a blend of the new and old pop music currently on my playlist, transcending generations and boundaries. I have always charted my own course and taken the path less traveled,” she stated.

“‘Rebel Queen’ features something new, old, and borrowed. Each song is unique, encapsulating my thoughts, melodies, and a truckload of nostalgia,” she added.

Alade also disclosed that the 16-track album explores themes of femininity, liberation, and consciousness, incorporating diverse African sounds with different tempos and rhythms.

The album includes collaborations with popular artistes from various parts of the world, covering themes of femininity, style, dance, motivation, liberation, and consciousness.

‘Rebel Queen’ is Alade’s sixth studio album, following ‘King of Queens’, ‘Mama Africa’, ‘Black Magic’, ‘Woman of Steel’, and ‘Empress’.

Since rising to fame with ‘Johnny’ in 2014, Alade has become a well-known figure in the music industry, performing in English, Yoruba, and French.
