Candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), in the 21 September governorship election in Edo State, Dr Udoh Oberaifo, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the progress of the ongoing continuous voters registration (CVR) exercise despite the initial set back caused by flooding.
He gave the commendation on Sunday after monitoring the exercise in Oredo and Ikpoba-Okha local government areas of the state.
Oberaifo who was impressed with the large turn out of people at various registration centers, described the CVR as a pivotal step towards ensuring the people’s voices were heard in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
According to him, “The exercise which began on Monday, May 27, has been commendable despite the set back caused by the flood disaster which destroyed INEC CVR capturing machines.
“As the CVR exercise progresses in the state, I urge all Edolites to go out en masse to register for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), revalidate their existing ones, and for those outside Edo State, transfer your voter cards back home.”
Oberaifo who condemned the violence that erupted in some registration areas across the state, urged INEC to consider extending the CVR exercise to ensure everyone has the opportunity to participate in the electoral process.
He said: “This election presents an opportunity to elect a leader who will end the cycle of violence, address our infrastructure deficiencies, improve education, implement policies for economic growth and empowerment, enhance security, and ensure 24 hour electricity.
“My commitment is to make Edo state a viable and prosperous region that will fulfill the dreams of generations to come.
“I implore every eligible voter in Edo State to participate in the CVR exercise. Your vote is your voice, and together, we can achieve the Edo of our dreams.
“Let us ensure that our state remains a beacon of democracy, where every vote counts, and every voice is heard.
“Join us in this crucial journey towards a better Edo State. Register, revalidate, transfer, and vote for a future that puts humanity first,” he said.
Commenting in the recent torrential rains that wrecked havoc on parts of the state, the AAC candidate sympathised with families whose properties were destroyed.
He promised that if elected governor come 21 September, he will give hope and succour to Edo people.
