The Lagos State Government has disclosed that it demolished 753 buildings on drainage alignment in different parts of the state in the last one year.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab disclosed this at a recent ministerial press conference in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

Wahab revealed that the demolition cut across several councils in the state, saying that a total of 1,457 buildings were identified to have encroached on drainage alignment, out of which 753 buildings had been demolished.

He said in Alimosho Local Government (LG), 141 buildings were demolished by the government, while 135 buildings were pulled down in Oshodi/Isolo LG, just as another 106 buildings were removed Mainland.

The commissioner revealed that while 92 buildings were demolished in Eti-Osa LG, 42 others were pulled down in Ibeju Lekki; 37 in Ifako Ijaiye; 28 in Ikoyi Obalende LCDA; 28 in Mushin, 43 in Agege, 35 in Apapa, 20 in Badagry, 27 in Kosofe, 18 in Somolu, five in Amuwo-Odofin, eight in Ojo, eight in Ikorodu, 18 in Ikeja and five in Surulere.

According to Wahab, the buildings were demolished by the drainage enforcement and compliance department of the ministry.
